Preserving History: Qinlan’s Artisans Recreate Ancient Chinese Treasure Ships

In a project blending historical research with exquisite artistry, the master modelers at Shanghai Qinlan Technology Co., Ltd. have completed a two-year endeavor to recreate the magnificent Treasure Ships of Admiral Zheng He’s Ming Dynasty fleet. This limited-edition series stands as a tribute to China’s illustrious age of exploration.

The 1:85 scale model is a breathtaking sight. The hull is crafted from teak and rosewood, with intricate carvings adorning the stern and bow. The complex web of rigging, made from tailored silk threads, supports dozens of individual sails made from treated linen. Artisans spent months hand-painting the elaborate patterns and mythical creatures that adorned these legendary vessels, based on consultations with historical experts.

Unlike many static historical models, Qinlan’s version includes subtle animated features. Servo motors allow the rudder to turn, and a gentle sound module plays ambient tracks of wind, waves, and crew commands, bringing the silent model to life. Each model comes with a numbered certificate and a book detailing the historical significance and the build process.

“This was a passion project for our entire team,” said [Spokesperson Name], Senior Modeler. “It was a challenge to do justice to these legendary ships where complete blueprints don’t exist. We combined archaeological evidence with artisan skill to create what we believe is the most accurate representation available today. It’s a piece of national pride.”

Only 50 of these limited-edition models will be produced.
